Clay Monoprints
by Starr Davis
Artist's Reception (open to public): Saturday, May 1, 2010, 6 – 8 PM
Starr Davis will show clay mono prints, which utilize both her painting and clay background. Colors scintillate through layers of texture. Clay printing is painting on a slab of clay with colored slips. The image is pressed onto polyester “paper”. Polyester creates a naturally occurring static electric charge so that the slip adheres to the paper and the print is permanent. After a print is “pulled” some slip layer of clay may remain on the slab. The build up of colored slips on the clay offers the possibility of continuity from one print to the next and the possibility to cut into the clay to reveal underlying colors. The result is a rich surface, witnessing a charge/love of life.
